I am Kerie Kushlan and I am excited to teach Physical Education for my 5th year at Cascade Elementary! This is my 1st year as the Title 1 Teacher and I am looking forward to teaching children to read and love reading!

I did my student teaching here, and have fallen in love with the town. I have many new activities and equipment for Elementary PE including snowshoes and target activities, and am excited to continue implementing them into my curriculum!

When I'm not teaching your kids, I enjoy golfing, floating the river, paddleboarding, snow activities, reading, Harry Potter marathons, crocheting, and hanging out with my husband, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. I also coach Junior Varsity Girl's Volleyball, assist JV and Varsity Girl's Basketball, and assist with Jr. High Volleyball.

# of Years in Education: 8

Why Does Mrs. Kushlan teach?

“Let us find something that may be important to us all” that was our slogan in Cambodia (we read it on a T-shirt and liked it) I realized then how important education is to the success of children, and how it is taken for granted here. I felt then that I could really make a difference in the life of children, and that I made the right decision of going into education.

A Little more about Mrs. Kushlan:

I grew up in the small farming community of Homedale, ID. I spent much of my time up until High school helping on the farm, playing golf, softball, and basketball. In HS I played Varsity golf for 4 years and helped my team win 4 state championships and received 2 individual silver medals. I was also the tall girl who played post for the girl's basketball team. I graduated from Homedale HS in 2004 and then attended college at the University of Idaho.

College brought me out of my shell and presented me with several leadership opportunities. I was an RA and an AA in the residence halls. I was in charge of organizing large scale programming involving university students and community members of Moscow and surrounding towns. I also participated in 2 Alternative Service Breaks. One sent me to Pearlington, MS for Hurricane Katrina relief, and the other sent me to Siem Reap, Cambodia to build classrooms and teach English.

I did my student teaching in Cascade Fall of 2010. I fell in love with the community and have been here ever since. My husband and I have been together for over 7 years and celebrated our first year of marriage during spring break. We are the proud parents of 2 dogs, (Zeba and Freeway), 2 Cats (Allie and Lola) and 3 guinea pigs (Steve French, Samsquanch, and Charlie).

During my free time I enjoy golfing, swimming, paddleboarding, walking, basketball, pickleball, reading, and Netflix marathons. I love keeping busy and coach basketball and volleyball, and regularly volunteer in the community and am an active member of the Cascade Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary.
