1st Grade
# of years in Education: 10

My name is Mrs. Melanie Stocks. This is my 5th year as a teacher. I love teaching and I especially love teaching the children in Cascade- Go Ramblers!

I was raised in Tendoy, Idaho the birthplace of Sacagawea. In 2005 I moved to Cascade with my family. My husband, George, is an electrician and we followed his work to Cascade. I have four children, Nick, Tessa, Kaylin, and Wyatt and a granddaughter, Sophia. I love to garden, swim, read, and spend time with my family.

I graduated Boise State University in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. I worked in the McCall-Donnelly School District as a paraprofessional for four years and then in Leadore, Idaho as a 7th and 8th grade English/History teacher for three years, before returning to Cascade. I am currently in my second year of teaching first grade at Cascade Elementary.

I was inspired by my grade school teacher to pursue teaching and implement many of her techniques in my classroom to make the atmosphere welcoming and the learning fun. I believe that my students are important and tell them every day. I strive to provide an environment where students feel that they are safe, welcomed, and that they belong.

I look forward to many more years of teaching the brilliant students at Cascade Elementary.

Hopes for the upcoming school year:

I hope that I instill a love of learning in all of the students in my class.

I hope that I can provide a safe, welcoming environment that embraces diversity and promotes kindness.

I hope that all students understand the power of yet.

As a school I hope we truly call to mind our best selves and that we support one another in doing so. This is a year of great change and we need to embrace it.

Why does Mrs. Stocks teach?

The classroom is one of the places that I feel the most at home. I am able to create an environment and lessons that promote students to become creative thinkers, problem solvers, community members, and most important empathetic and kind to one another. I teach because I believe in the kids and I believe that I can make a difference. I teach because I am a nurturer. I teach for those “Aha!” moments. Teaching is more than a responsibility, it is my passion.
