I was born in Roseburg, Oregon and raised in Denver, Washington D.C., and Portland, Oregon.  After high school, I worked my way through college alternating periods of work with periods of studying mathematics and science. Two seasons on lookouts were followed by six seasons as a wildland firefighter.  Eventually, I graduated from Oregon State University. Go Beavs! I met my husband Wade when we both worked on the Ochoco National Forest. We were married in my parent’s backyard on the Umpqua River outside of Roseburg.  While we lived at a remote ranger station, I worked as a paraprofessional at a two room k-8th grade school. Soon our daughter was born, and I was able to stay home with her until she started school. During that time I taught privately, taught GED classes, worked at a nursery, and started a small wholesale nursery in our backyard. We began our Idaho adventure when we moved to Challis.  That was followed by moves to Jackson Wyoming, Victor, Idaho, and back to Jackson. I worked as the Teton County, WY school district lunch program accountant, a math/science teacher at Teton High School, Idaho, and a special education paraprofessional back in Jackson. After visiting friends in Cascade, we chose to move to Valley County when my husband retired. I began working at Cascade Schools as a paraprofessional until I was hired to teach math. Our daughter is a CHS graduate now working for Teton National Park.

I enjoy being outside as much as possible birding, camping, hiking, fishing, and traveling.  When stuck inside, I spend my time sewing, cooking, and dabbling in various fiber arts. Most of all, I cherish the time we get to spend with our daughter, extended family, and friends.

Through determination and hard work, I hope that my students will appreciate the elegance and usefulness of the mathematics that surrounds us all.

Why does Mrs. Burleson teach?

I enjoy watching students develop academically and socially through their high school years.
