Questions and Answers

Will bids NOT using Video Insight NVR software be considered? No - Video Insight NVR software is required.
Would it be an option for the school to purchase Windows Server 2008 Release 2 Enterprise 64 bit with one year software assurance outright using educational discount pricing provided by Microsoft?Yes. Bidders can opt to have the school district purchase the server software at the education discount price of $404.41 per server license ($808.82 for both servers plus $20.62 for installation media). The bidder would perform the installation and configuration. Please include "School district will provide server licensing and installation media." in the deviations section of the "Bid Page."
Please clarify the UPS requirement for the server rack enclosure on p. 13 of the "Video Surveillance Specifications Exhibit 1."The UPS and the server must automatically initiate and complete server shutdown before the batteries in the UPS are depleted. Upon restoration of power, the server must automatically restart.
Can we install access points and connect to the cameras wirelessly?Yes. The access points can be connected to the PoE switches in our wiring closets. The vendor will be responsible for installing the access points, supplying power to the cameras and verifying satisfactory performance of the system. We encourage vendors contemplating wireless connectivity to try running the cameras through access points and monitoring for bandwidth and picture quality issues before installing the cameras.
I just wanted to make sure you were planning on separate 12VDC power to the outdoor cameras, since PoE current is not sufficient for the dome heaters. The heater and fan starts when internal dome temperature falls below 0 deg. C. The fan only will start when cooling is needed.Based upon the experiences of Tamarack Ski Resort and the McCall-Donnelly School District, we have opted not to use heater/fan units on our external cameras. Both of these organizations do not have heater/fan units in their external enclosures without ill effect despite having a slightly harsher climate. The only exceptions were cameras with mechanical controls such as point and zoom, but our system will have no moving parts.
I assume physical depth of the servers is a critical issue (or it wouldn't be in the spec). Whose servers do you use now? Cisco? Dell and HP run in the 24"-30" range. The server chassis depth may exceed the specified 20" depth, and the Middle Atlantic DWR-18-32 enclosure may be substituted for the DWR-18-26 to accommodate the extra depth. The vendor must ensure that the server fits into the selected rack with reasonable space for cabling. Our present rack, which will house the other server, will accommodate chassis depths up to 30". We currently have HP, Dell and IBM servers, but we have no preferred brand for the servers, as long as both are identical, meet or exceed the other bid specifications, and include a 3-year warranty. If the selected servers are more than 20" deep and/or the DWR-18-32 is specified in the bid, please note in the deviations section of the bid page. These deviations will not adversely the bid in the selection process.
